Me & Mine: A Family Portrait in September

September always feels like a new start to me somehow. Even though obviously I’m no longer in school, or have children at school, there’s always something about coming to the end of summer that feels like the end of an era. And there is so much to love about the onset of autumn that it always feels like embracing the new - kicking through leaves, collecting conkers, feeling that crisp air on your cheeks.

I feel like our attempts at family photos are slowly getting better - this time I remembered the tripod for the DSLR and worked out how to work the Continuous Shooting mode on the camera which made life much easier! We took our photos this month last weekend on a trip to Kent to Scotney Castle (if you’ve not been and you’re at all close, you must make a trip - it’s beautiful!) Max still loves to run back from the camera and get into position, and we end up with far better photos this way than if we asked someone to take a shot of us. He does have quite the ‘cheese’ face now though, I think we need to start getting him to use a more natural looking word!

I adore these shots of us all together - they give me that warm and fuzzy feeling looking at them and I’m so grateful to have two such amazing boys in my life. We had such a wonderful trip out that day and I think it shows on all our faces. I can’t believe that until taking part in the Me & Mine Project we had no photos we liked of us all together - now we have a whole set to choose from!

This month we’ve loved:

  • Visiting the paddling pool at Stoke Park in Guildford
  • New autumn jumpers
  • The pirate show at Legoland (always!)
  • Collecting conkers
  • Visiting castles in Kent

  • Sarah Cantwell

These photos are gorgeous! So natural, but they perfectly capture the love between you all. Just beautiful xx

  • Laura @dearbearandbeany

I love these Katy, especially that last one of Max! I have the cheese face from Holly all the time, totally need a new word. I love that we have so many more photos of the four of us that we wouldn’t have had x #meandmineproject

    • If you find a good new word, do let me know! Max is rather attached to ‘cheese’ now - I don’t know who introduced it, it certainly wasn’t me, it makes for the most awful photo faces!

  • Great family photos. I love your dress too, is that from Boden? x

  • Rebecca Taylor

These are stunning photos Katy!! You all look genuinely happy! I completely agree with you about September too. What a lovely set of family photos you will have. X

    • I’d really recommend it, even if you don’t want to put them on your blog. It always feels like a bit of pressure to have to get them done, but we’ve ended up with some gorgeous shots of us that we’d never have had.

  • Louise George

Gorgeous photos of you all - I do love Max’s big cheesy grin in them. Looks like you were having a lovely day out 🙂 #meandmineproject

    • Thanks Louise - it really was a lovely day. Not sure whether we just always manage to take the tripod on a lovely day, or whether taking the photos makes a day more fun?!

  • Laura @Little Ladies Big World

It really looks like so much fun in these photos lovely xx

    • Thanks so much Laura, it really was fun! I was a bit out of breath by the end though with all the running back and forth! Next time it’s John’s turn!

  • Cariemay

Oh what a beautiful backdrop - is that the castle from I Capture the Castle? It certainly looks like you had a lot of fun exploring 🙂

    • I looked it up as I wondered if it might be - apparently not! We had a great time - climbed to the top of the tower!

  • Maria

Katie I don’t have kids in school either but I always feel the same at the end of the summer holidays! I think it’s because it signals the end of summer to me! #meandmineproject x

  • These are lovely! Especially the last one! I’ve never used continuous shooting- will have to try it for next month! #meandmineproject

    • It worked a treat! I’ve been making good use of it ever since for action shots too - have come out with some beauties!

  • Ahhh these are gorgeous. Look at that big smile and laughter shining through too. What beautiful captures to have and look back on as your little one gets older. These are lovely. Happy October ahead #meandmineproject
