Me and Mine: A Family Portrait in November

Permalink

I really think that autumn is the best season for children - there is so much to discover, collect, and explore, and we've been making the most of it this month and getting out a lot. We had another brief trip down to Cornwall at the start of the month, and we've had days out to hunt gruffalo, and to various National Trust properties, as well as getting ready for Christmas. We had Max's first parent's evening since he's been in Pre-School, and it was so lovely to hear how much he's come on in the last few months and how much his teacher's obviously think of him. I've had some concerns in the past about him being a bit behind ...

Christmas Shopping at The Lexicon {Bracknell}

Permalink

The Lexicon is Bracknell's newest shopping centre, having opened back in September, and it's really put Bracknell on the map as a shopping destination. I grew up just down the road, but for a long time Bracknell was seen as pretty downmarket and I rarely headed there to go shopping, preferring to go to Reading instead. But with a beautiful outdoor pedestrianised shopping village, filled with fabulous brands like Joules, Fenwick, Fatface, Paperchase, M&S, L'occitane, and lots of places for eating and drinking, it's become somewhere that has a real buzz about it.       I was invited by The Lexicon to a blogger event to find out about everything they have going on this Christmas - and they're definitely embracing the Christmas ...

Oh Help, Oh No, It’s A Gruffalo!

Permalink

We love the Gruffalo trail at Alice Holt, but for some reason it's been absolutely ages since we last did it. Now that Ben is feeding a bit less often, I'm finally feeling able to head out with both children on my own, so we ventured out last week for a trip to seek out a Gruffalo. Since our last visit, Alice Holt have installed lots of other characters from the Gruffalo story around the trail and that worked so well for encouraging Max to keep on going. It's 1.5 miles, which, for a 3 year old, can be a bit hard going at times, but the thought of seeing the next sculpture kept him going (along with the bribe of ...

Living Arrows 48/52

Permalink

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth – Kahlil Gibran   We took a trip to Alice Holt last week to do their Gruffalo trail. Walks with Max can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, so I'd been a bit wary of taking him on my own, but he was an absolute delight. The route around took us through a little section of pine trees and it was so sweet to see him so entranced by the 'Christmas trees'. His little face as he looked up at them was a picture!

The Magic of the Little Moments

The other day it was bathtime and I ended up doing the boys baths separately. I normally do them together, which doesn't always work well for Ben as he gets splashed, so when Max wanted to finish watching his episode of Paw Patrol, I let him sit downstairs until he was ready. I ended up getting in the bath with Ben, which of course meant that Max then wanted me to get in with him, which I've not done in forever. I wrapped Ben up in his dressing gown and left him happy on the changing mat. It was lovely - one of those simple things which I just don't manage to do very often. Just watching Max splash about ...

Summer Infant Slumber Buddy – Review

Permalink

We have always been big fans of noise machines to aid sleep - both of our children haven't been the best sleepers, but we've never had problems in getting them off to sleep. They've both loved noises in their different ways - Max absolutely loved white noise, while Ben is more a fan of music, so I jumped at the chance to review the Hippo Slumber Buddy from Summer Infant - a lullaby playing nightlight in the form of the sweetest sleeping hippo you'll ever see! Routine is such a huge part of a smooth bedtime, and a few cues can really help to let your baby understand that it's bedtime now and soothe them to sleep.   The Hippo Slumber Buddy The Summer ...
