You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth – Kahlil Gibran   It seems like ages ago now, but when the nice weather was with us last week we headed to the paddling pool at Stoke Park in Guildford. Max was so excited and kept saying 'papal pool' the whole way! But then when we arrived it was so busy that he didn't want to go in. I was on the verge of leaving and heading back home, when I decided that we were going to give it a go, so I put his swimming gear on and we just sat on the edge of the pool. Within 10 minutes he was in and splashing away and ...

A big welcome to week 12 of #SharingtheBlogLove! I love running this linky with my lovely friend Laura at Dear Bear and Beany, and once again we were so pleased that so many of you joined us last week. It's so lovely that we're continuing to hear such lovely feedback from you guys on this linky - it's great that you love finding new blogs as much as we do! Hasn't this week been amazing so far? It's been so nice to have a last burst of the summer weather, just when we thought autumn had arrived. We've loved visiting the splash park this week - it was our first time and Max took some persuading, but once he was in I ...

A big welcome to our 12th week of #SharingtheBlogLove and our weekly Blogger Showcase! If you're new to #SharingtheBlogLove, these are our favourite posts from last week's linky. We love that each week we can choose a few favourites for you all to read, comment and show a bit of extra love!   Little Hearts Big Love I think most of us who have been with our partners for more than a few years are guilty of taking them for granted. I guess it's an inevitable part of marriage really and I know that I can often look past all of the good things that my husband does and see only the things that he hasn't done. I loved this reflection from Louise, Sometimes ...

A visit to Great Dixter in late summer

Since my love for gardening has taken hold, there are certain gardens that I've wanted to visit for ages. These are gardens that you see featured all the time in magazines and books, and the photos always look spectacular. Great Dixter was the home of garden designer Christopher Lloyd, and it's characterised by a bold use of colour and really dense planting. It's been on my 'must visit' list for a long time, and despite being without my 'big' camera as it was being repaired (all photos in this post are from my phone!), I really wanted to see Great Dixter in late summer, before autumn set in and things started to go to seed.     I was stunned by the density of the ...

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth – Kahlil Gibran   This weekend we took Max out for the first time on his scooter to a big open parkland near us with a great track for kids bikes and scooters. I can't say it was an all round success - at first he flat out refused to scoot, or wear his helmet. After lots of convincing, we persuaded him to get on the scooter and before we knew it he was off! Still needs to get the hang of steering mind you! Now he's realised that scooting is fun, next time he'll have to wear the helmet!

5 Happy Things #22

I'm writing this on a Friday at the end of what has been a lovely week. It felt like we'd turned the corner into autumn at the start of the week, but then we've had that lovely burst of nice weather as summer gives us one last go, and we've been making the most of it. There has been lots of lovely things to choose from this week, but here are my top 5!   01. My husband had an ad-hoc day off work, and we found ourselves at my Mum's in the afternoon and were planning to go out to Zizzi for an early dinner. Mum wasn't keen on coming but Max insisted - as we were saying goodbye at the ...

Finding the right work/mum balance

I never pictured myself as a stay-at-home mum. When I got pregnant, I assumed that I would go back to work after maternity leave, hopefully being able to negotiate a part-time contract for a period of time. My work were very positive about supporting working parents, so I hoped that this would be possible. But once I started investigating options it became clear that my old job and our location just weren't compatible with childcare. With a lengthy commute into or out of London, plus travel time either side, I used to arrive home at 7.15 each evening. Little did I know when I got pregnant that nurseries in our area tend to open at 8am and close at 6pm - I would have ...

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth – Kahlil Gibran   We visited Great Dixter last week - a garden that's been on my 'must visit' list for ages. It's a garden that was almost designed with Max in mind - so many paths with plants spilling across them. Max loved pushing his way through and exploring!
