Me & Mine: A Family Portrait - August

August has been far and away our best month of the year so far! It’s felt really busy, full of days out and adventures, and we were so busy that it completely slipped my mind that we needed to take our monthly Me & Mine photos until the Bank Holiday weekend. But as it turns out, that was pretty ideal timing, as we’d planned a big day out with a trip to the beach, so we slung the camera (my old one as the new one is still with Canon for repair) and tripod into my bag and headed off.

I love the beach - there’s something magical about feeling the sand in between your toes and the breeze on your face. Sadly when we first arrived Max did not agree about the feeling of either - he felt it was too windy for him and kept shouting ‘cold’! But just as we were starting to think about giving up and heading home, he started warming up to it and before we knew if we were building sandcastles as if we were pro-sandcastle builders (do they exist? I bet there’s a competition out there somewhere).

Making a game of setting the timer like we did last month still hasn’t lost it’s magic for Max, and he loved going up with one of us to set it and then running back like a champ! Of course, we got more than a few shots where he didn’t quite make it, but that’s all part of the fun, right? And you can see he’s acquired a definite ‘cheese’ face now!

We had such a magical day out together - it was one of those days where everything goes right, where you head home feeling content, exhausted, and with your heart feeling full of beautiful memories. The photos were taken late on in the day, so we all look a bit sweaty and scruffy, but I think that’s part of the charm for me. I’m so glad that we chose that day to capture these memories of us together as a family - I think you can see on our faces what a great time we all had!

This month we’ve loved:

  • Picnics
  • Playing in the paddling pool at Grandma and Grandad’s
  • Ice creams
  • Learning to scoot
  • Riding on the miniature railway
  • Trips to Legoland

That last photo is one of my favourites of you and Max - there’s just so much joy captured in it. Love your beach photos and the fact that Max now has a “cheese” face - I can imagine how much fun it is for him to set the timer with one of you and run back 🙂 #meandmineproject

    • Thanks so much Louise - I love that one too! And his cheese face is so cute - even if I do prefer a more natural smile generally!

  • Laura - dear bear and beany

I love these photos so much Katy, they sum up summer so perfectly on the beach. We had lots of running back from the timer too, such fun! X #meandmineproject

    • Thanks so much Laura! The timer setup is great isn’t it? So much easier than trying to get him to sit for a photo while someone else takes it! I was worried the novelty might have worn off this month, but he loved it just as much!

  • Elsie Pop

I LOVE these family portraits, I’m so glad you’re doing them! The one of John and Max is fab - love the goofy grins. I wish I still got that excited about sandcastles - we should take Max and Pop to the beach off-season and see if I can recapture the magic! xx

    • Isn’t that one fab, I love my two boys! Straight after that sandcastle shot he smashed it down with his spade - apparently that’s all part of the fun! We should definitely do a beach trip, that sounds amazing!

You just can’t beat the beach can you? What a lovely afternoon and a gorgeous set of photos!

It sounds like a lovely day, the beach always instills calm and happiness for me too. Even though I hate sand! X
