This week has been a bit of a tough one for our household. Max has been pretty ill with a sky high temperature and sickness bug and we’ve spent most of the week cuddling on the sofa with him snoozing and co-sleeping during the night. It’s made me realise that I really don’t deal well my child being sick and makes me appreciate how agonising it must be to have a child going through a serious illness. So not so much a moment of happiness to kick off, but more a note of gratitude.
In cheerier news, we got our Christmas decorations down from the loft yesterday and that’s kicked off the festive feeling for me! There is something truly nostalgic about laying out the Christmas decorations – like a reunion with old friends. We’re not putting our tree up until next weekend, but I like to be prepared.
I’ve ordered all of the materials to make my own Christmas wreath this year - florist ring, wire, pins – I can’t wait to get going. I’m not renowned for being particularly crafty, so this is a big challenge for me! I’m heading to a florist this week to buy all my foliage and flowers to adorn it and I’m so excited to head home each day and smell the sweet pine scent at our front door. And if it doesn’t have quite the professional look I’m aiming for, well, that homemade look is all part of the Christmas charm, right?
My husband and I have booked a last minute weekend away next weekend which I’m really looking forward to. It will be our first night where we’re both away from Max, so I’m slightly apprehensive, but I know he’ll be fine with my parents. We’re heading to Rye – an almost seaside town in East Sussex, which we’ve visited before and loved - and Camber Sands. Hoping for a bracing walk along the beach, no rain please!
It was my Mum’s birthday yesterday and we celebrated by heading into London with my sister to see Will Young at the Hammersmith Apollo. We saw Will in Cabaret in the West End a few years ago and we were all so impressed that we jumped at the chance to see him on his live tour. He’s a fantastic live performer and a really generous performer too - great interaction with all of his band and backing singers.
So all in all, this has really been a week of gratitude and anticipation rather than filled with happy moments, but with Christmas right around the corner now I know there will be lots of happy times to come!
