5 Happy Things #18

This has been a week of highs and lows - my emotions have been all over the place! It was my birthday on Thursday, which always brings lots of happiness, but I was so sad to wake up to more horrific news yesterday of the events in Nice. I don’t want to dwell on it here on my blog, as I just don’t have the right words to express how I feel about it, or to help anyone, but my heart goes out to all of those families affected by such an awful attack. I hesitated to post this today, as it seemed somewhat frivolous and insignificant in the wake of such sad news, but I think that these are the little things that help us get through the tough times so we shouldn’t shy away from focusing on them. I think it’s so important that we focus on the kindness that exists out there every day and on the good things that exist in our lives.

01. On Monday I met up with my linky partner Laura and fellow blogger Donna and their two gorgeous little ones at The Vyne National Trust. I’m not great at making new friends in life and I never thought I’d be brave enough to meet up with online friends in real life, but I’m so glad I made that big step. It was lovely to put real life faces to names, and everyone was just as I would have imagined. The biggest surprise of the day for me was Max - I was slightly nervous as to how he’d be, as he’s often nervous with new people, but he quickly warmed up and was really happy playing! I was even amazed to watch Donna offer to help him up some steps and see him happily take her hand! My little boy is growing up! The morning ended with the downpour to end all downpours though - we all got absolutely soaked (and guess who didn’t bring the umbrella!)

02. My husband brought me a snazzy new DSLR for my birthday! I’ve been wondering about getting one for ages, but felt it was a waste of money if I wasn’t ever going to learn how to use a camera properly. But I’m feeling much more confident in moving off of Auto mode and I’m so excited to get practising with it. I hope you’ll notice a marked improvement in my photos over the next few months!

03. My birthday was such a sunny day! My husband was off work for the day so we took advantage of the lovely weather and headed to Legoland - it was lovely to watch the Pirate Show with Max and see how into it he gets! He is definitely a fan of slapstick and uttered huge belly laughs at numerous points during the show! We met my sister and her little boy and it was really noticeable how close our two boys are becoming. My heart melted a bit when they were standing together holding hands and my nephew reached over to give Max a kiss! Totally adorable!

04. I bought a new dress from Boden in the sale - it’s yellow which in my opinion is the perfect feel-good colour. It really must be, as the first day I wore it I had 7 random compliments on how lovely it was! It’s been a long time since that’s happened and it felt really good!

05. Max is starting to put words together at last! The first was “more juice”, but a cuter and more unexpected one was when we joined the motorway - “cars… chase!” I have to admit I’d never quite thought about it like that, but I suppose they do seem to be chasing each other! It’s one that made me smile and one I want to remember.

Oh my goodness that is the cutest ‘cars, chase’! He is right they do look like that. It was really lovely to meet you and Max and I am pleased you made that big step. Max was a delight and the little ones got on so well. We will definitely plan another one. I pleased the sun came out for our birthday and you had a lovely day x

  • What lovely things you’ve been up to this week. I agree that it can be rather nerve racking when first meeting people you talk to usually online. However, some of the people I admire the most have started out that way. #HappyDaysLinky
