A big welcome back to #SharingtheBlogLove! It was another great week for linkups last week with 44 posts linked up, and so many great reads that we had a tough time choosing our favourites this week. If you're new to #SharingtheBlogLove, these are mine and Laura's favourite posts from last week's linky. As part of the linky we'd like you to choose one post from each showcase post to head over and leave a comment to show them some extra blog love. It's always lovely to take a look at our featured posts this week and see how many extra comments they've had from you guys!   Little Ladies Big World I love a blog birthday post - it gets people all reflective and, as a blogger, it's always ...

Thoughts on gender preference

Whenever someone finds out you're pregnant, one of the first questions they're likely to ask is "is it a boy or a girl?" or "are you going to find out?". Our 20 week scan is rapidly approaching and after much discussion we've agreed that we would like to find out the sex of our baby if possible. Which has got me thinking, do I have a gender preference? When I was pregnant with Max, I was convinced I was having a girl. All the old wives tales pointed towards a girl - the severe sickness, the fast heart beat, the cravings for sweet things, the high bump. And I have to admit that my preference was for a girl. I come ...

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth – Kahlil Gibran The Living Arrows series is a photo project hosted by Donna at What the Redhead Said. It's a weekly series where you share a photo which captures a moment in childhood. I love how it encourages me to capture those little moments and I love looking back and seeing all the changes in Max as he grows up over the year.   Between the constant rain and me feeling sick, it's felt like a quiet week last week! We broke out in a gap in the rain one day to go and feed the ducks by the canal. I was surprised to find any but we managed ...

The Pregnancy Diaries: Week 18

I'm now 18 weeks pregnant and well into the second trimester (still missing that elusive second trimester glow though).   What's going on with the baby The baby is now the size of a bell pepper and is now doing lots of kicking and rolling around in there.   What's going on with me   I'm having real trouble sleeping lately - I'm getting nasty headaches that come on in the early evening and paracetamol just isn't shifting them. I'm longing to be able to pop a Nurofen right now! And I just can't seem to get comfortable in bed - I've reached the stage where the bump is too big to lie on my back anymore or I get very lightheaded, so the Dream Genii pillow has ...

It really did make me so proud what a lovely community of linkers we have and how everyone is so supportive of each other. Thank you so much for making #SharingtheBlogLove what it is!   But, on with the linky!   What's #SharingtheBlogLove all about? A big welcome back to #SharingtheBlogLove! It was so lovely to get back to catching up with all of your posts last week - there were so many great reads to choose from! If you're new to #SharingtheBlogLove, these are mine and Laura's favourite posts from last week's linky. As part of the linky we'd like you to choose one post from each showcase post to head over and leave a comment to show them some extra blog love.   Five Little Doves I love reading other people's reflections on the year that has gone, and I thought Laura's post, The Lessons I Leaned in 2016, was such an inspiring and positive read. Laura is a wonderful writer, and an amazing person, and I love that she was ...

A few weeks back my husband returned from a supermarket shop with our two year old and mentioned a rather patronising series of comments that he'd had from the lady on the checkout. Now Max is pretty good in the supermarket - he loves to help with a task, so is generally happy to find things for you and put them in the trolley as you go round. But once you've done the shop and made it to the checkout, his patience has worn a bit thin and he gets grumpy. The lady helpfully pointed out that he wasn't very happy, and then rather patronisingly suggested that it can help if you give them something to hold. Now, my husband ...

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth – Kahlil Gibran 2017 will be my first full year taking part in the Living Arrows series, hosted by Donna at What the Redhead Said. It's a weekly series where you share a photo which captures a moment in childhood. I love how it encourages me to capture those little moments and I love looking back and seeing all the changes in Max as he grows up over the year.   We braved the cold last week for a trip to Alice Holt forest to hunt for some Gruffalo. They have a great little den building area, with lots of sticks for children to use to build little teepee dens. ...

Happy New Year! The Christmas break really felt like such a long one this year and it was so lovely to be able to spend so much time together as a family. John only went back to work on Thursday this week too, so it's been nice to just ease back into things. Although the bump back to solo parenting was a bit of a sharp reality check!   01. We decided to head out to the Devil's Punchbowl for a walk on the Bank Holiday as it was such a gorgeous day. Unfortunately the rest of the world had the same idea and we had to queue for about 30 minutes just to get into the car park! But it was well ...

The Pregnancy Diaries: Week 17

17 weeks pregnant! Creeping ever closer to the halfway point (a huge marker in my mind!)   What's going on with the baby   At 17 weeks the baby is busy growing it's unique fingerprints. It's hearing is improving all the time and is busy developing fat and muscle to really be able to make you feel those kicks in the coming weeks. Everything is all in proportion now and it's face is looking far more baby-like, with eyes in the right place, and eyebrows and eyelashes having developed.   What's going on with me?   Sadly the constant nausea has returned this week, although thankfully the instances of actually being sick have still been fairly few. I'm so glad to have had John around this week to help with ...
