The Pregnancy Diaries: Week 34

34 weeks pregnant and I'm pretty much done with this now! This week has been such a struggle to get through - the sickness is back, I ache everywhere, I can't sleep - I keep reassuring myself that we just have 5 more weeks to get through.   What's going on with the baby 34 weeks seems like a huge milestone, as 99% of babies born from now on would be able to survive outside the womb. He'll be putting on the fat ready for the birth and his skin is smoothing out and his lungs are maturing all the time.   What's going on with me I genuinely don't think I was struggling this much at this point in my first pregnancy. I didn't stop ...

Belo + Me Milestone Cards & Wardrobe Dividers - Review

One of my biggest tasks in preparing for the new baby has been retrieving all of the old baby clothes from the loft and sorting through everything. It's been a pretty mammoth task and has made me realise just how many clothes we have, in so many different sizes. So when Belo + Me got in touch to offer to send me through their wardrobe dividers and milestone cards it couldn't have come at a better time! Belo + Me are a small online boutique, selling a range of children's toys, gifts, and accessories. Inspired by the Portuguese 'Belo', meaning 'beautiful', their designs are colourful and unique and I loved browsing their shop. Wardrobe Dividers I'd not come across wardrobe dividers before, but ...

The Perfect Nursing Bra from Bravado Designs - Review

I'm ashamed to admit that first time around, I had no idea that you weren't supposed to wear normal bras during pregnancy, or that such a thing as a nursing bra existed. I had to send my husband out, two days post birth, to hurriedly purchase a nursing bra! This time around I'm a bit better informed. Nursing bras are recommended as the underwire in normal bras can restrict the developing milk ducts, and once you're nursing, can cause blocked ducts and mastitis. As well as the convenience of having the little clips to detach the strap for feeding - the last thing you want to be doing when feeding in public / the middle of the night is struggling ...

The Pregnancy Diaries: Week 33

Today marks the end of 33 weeks and it's feeling so much closer all the time now. It's definitely getting tougher though, and each week remaining feels like a real hurdle to get through. Just 6 weeks left now (fingers crossed anyway!)   What's going on with the baby At 33 weeks the baby weighs about 4 pounds and will continue to put on about half a pound each week. His skeleton will be hardening up now and when he's awake they will have their eyes open. His hearing is pretty well developed now too, so given the fact that Max talks to him all the time, I'm hoping that he'll recognise his brother's voice when he's born.   What's going on with me Following on from ...

32 weeks pregnant and the third trimester is whizzing by!   What's going on with the baby The baby is now about the size of a squash. Their fingernails and toenails are fully formed, and the baby might even scratch itself if it has an itch - how cute is that? They'll carry on growing until birth - I remember poor Max being covered in scratches as a baby from his long nails. I've made sure all our newborn sleepsuits have built in scratch mitts this time around!   What's going on with me This week has been a tough one. I'm definitely feeling huge, and have had quite a few "not long to go now" comments when out and about - 8 weeks still feels like quite ...

Getting Through the Newborn Days with my Favourite TV Box Sets

*This is a sponsored post Those newborn days are a hazy memory to me now, but I'm well aware that we're staring down the barrel of them again. One of my most essential items for getting through it all was our Amazon Video / Netflix subscription, which give you access to a whole host of TV shows and films to get you through those long night-time feeds. Combine that with a top of the range Panasonic UHD 4K TV and you're all set! I find there are certain criteria that make something essential watching in the baby / breastfeeding days. You want something that doesn't require too much brainpower - I distinctly remember watching House of Cards and not following it at all! ...

The Pregnancy Diaries: Week 31

31 weeks pregnant and the weeks are really ticking down now.   What's going on with the baby The baby now weighs somewhere around 3.5lbs and is about to head into a growth spurt. His immune system is now much more developed, and he's moving around a lot - and those kicks are definitely getting more uncomfortable now!   What's going on with me This week I'm definitely feeling like a big pregnant lady - getting up, walking, sitting on the floor, anything physical is definitely becoming very difficult. I feel I'm definitely developing a waddle and my pace has slowed in line with Max's toddler pace (and when he decides he's going to do a runner in the shops I'm really struggling to keep up with him!). ...

My first birth story - a positive experience of back to back labour

As my due date for number two creeps ever closer I can't help but look back on my first labour and wonder if it will be similar. So, as this time three years ago I was in the throes of labour, I thought today would be a good day to share with you my first birth story - because who doesn't love a good birth story? To be frank, I've always been pretty petrified of childbirth - I have a very low pain threshold, and for years I was convinced that I would never have children because it wasn't something I wanted to go through. So throughout my pregnancy the worry about the labour was always at the back of my ...

The Pregnancy Diaries: Week 30

30 weeks pregnant and honestly it feels like such a huge milestone! Just ten more weeks to go and then hopefully we should get to meet our newest family member. It's all starting to feel very real now!   What's going on with the baby The baby is now about 39cm long and somewhere around 3lbs. Until now, he will have been covered in a fine coating of hair called lanugo, but as the fat starts to develop he'll start to shed this as it's no longer required to keep him warm.   What's going on with me I seem to be suffering from a migraine every other week at the moment, and it lasts for a few days and makes me really sick with it too. I had the ...

The highs and lows of pregnancy

I'm not someone who will ever look back on pregnancy with much fondness. This is my second time around and I'm not finding it to be any more pleasurable than the first time - relentless sickness for the first 23 weeks, acid reflux, aches and pains, lack of sleep. There's not much to enjoy when it comes down to it! But I think it's important to try and find the positives, and when I thought hard enough, there are definitely some lurking there to balance out all my complaints. So here are my highs and lows of pregnancy...   High - Seeing your baby wriggling around at the scans Although the scans are often not quite the magic moment you might have anticipated, ...
