7 Tips For Taking Better Photographs of Your Children

I think the single best thing that blogging has given me over the years is the photography skills I've developed which have allowed me to capture so many beautiful moments of our boys growing up. 3 years ago, I'd barely picked up a camera, and my photos definitely weren't anything to shout about. Over the years, I've discovered a love of photography, and I'm staggered by how much you can develop in a short space of time (I wrote about how I went about improving my skills in this post if you fancy reading). But while undoubtedly the biggest step for me has been learning how to use my camera in manual mode, there are a number of fantastic tips ...

An Instagrammer’s Floral Year: A Seasonal Calendar

Instagram acts as a visual and creative diary for its users, so it's no surprise that flowers form a key feature throughout the year. I love seeing the seas of bluebells pop up in April, and giving way to peonies and then lavender. If you want to be prepared for the floral trends as the seasons change, here is a little prompt that should help (snappy calendar image at the end of this post), and perhaps give you some inspiration during those trickier months. January & February The first two months of the year are all about the snowdrops for me. They're the first sign that spring is on its way, and such a welcome sight after a long winter. The start ...

PYO Sunflowers - Fields of Happy!

I truly think seeing a field of sunflowers stretching out ahead of you is one of the happiest sights there is, and so perfectly summer! It's one of the highlights of my seasonal calendar. We love a visit to our local PYO farm, where they always have a good selection of sunflowers which you can pick yourselves from the field. Since posting our latest trip on my Instagram, I had lots of comments from people who said they'd love to pick their own sunflowers but didn't think there was a PYO sunflower field near them, so I thought it would be fun to share a few of our photos and give a little list of places across the UK where ...

How I Upped My Photography Skills

Having children has been the one single thing that has ignited my love of photography. The moments we have watching our children grow up are so fleeting that it's made me want to capture everything I possibly can, to document our family life as our children grow up. Up until a few years ago, I enjoyed taking photos, but felt that I could never be technical enough to properly master using a proper camera, but slowly I've been making steps towards using a DSLR, mastering manual exposure and upping my photography game. I've had quite a few comments recently from people who've noticed the improvement in my photos, which is always absolutely lovely to hear, so I thought it would be ...

The sight of purple lavender stretching out into the distance is a huge part of the Instagrammer's seasonal floral calendar, and I'm definitely guilty of jumping on the lavender fields bandwagon. I'm not a great photographer, but there's something about the hazy purple background of a lavender field that elevates any photo. I've put together a little list of all the lavender fields I'm aware of - is there a lavender field near you? South England Mayfield Lavender Located close to the M25 and just a short drive from London, Mayfield Lavender is a stunning setting and, ...
