Dear Max,

Today you are two - Happy Birthday!

It seems like only yesterday that we bought you home from hospital, a little red, wrinkly, screaming bundle - and yet at the same time that seems ages ago, as you’ve changed so much in those two years.

Over the last year, you’ve learnt to walk - first taking those really tentative steps, but now you’re running around faster than I can keep up with half of the time. You’re such a little professor and you love a puzzle, or to figure out how something works. I think you’ll end up being an engineer, just like your Daddy.

 

 

Your personality has developed so much over the last year too - you’re a child of extremes, when you’re happy, you’re very very happy, and when you’re upset everyone knows it! You are strong willed, but caring and affectionate, always full of ‘fling-your-arms-around-the-neck’ hugs, and sloppy kisses.

But the thing that has surprised me more than anything is all the things you’ve taught me about myself. I’ve always considered myself to be quite a serious person - I remember even as a child being very into my reading and writing, and was very bookish. But you’ve made me realise that I can be a fun person too, and that I can be funny! Seeing things through your fascinated eyes has been a revelation for me - you see so much joy in the little things, and you’ve inspired me to see that too. Your little giggle is the sound that makes my heart swell with pride at the fact that you are my son. You’re so much fun to be around, and I’m so grateful that I get to have you as my little companion most days.

It’s amazing how much love I have for you. I’m so proud of the little boy you are, and the bigger boy you are growing into. Happy 2nd birthday my little guy.
