Nature Play with Willow and Wild Box

When I was pregnant, I imagined myself as the perfect Pinterest mum, doing all kinds of crafts with my children. As it turns out, Max isn't really into crafting at all, and is far more excited to get outside and explore, or learn about how things work. When I first heard about Willow and Wild's Subscription boxes, I knew they'd tick the right boxes for both me and Max, with their focus on teaching children about nature and the world around them, with a little bit of craft thrown in too. Willow and Wild is a monthly box which fits through your letterbox, and is filled with a huge range of activities to help children learn about and engage with nature. ...

Encouraging Wildlife in the Garden with Boxwild

We're such big fans of learning about nature as a family and anything that gets us outside in the garden is always a big hit. One of Max's favourite activities is topping up his bird feeder and seeing all the different kinds of birds come flocking to feast on the seed. We loved our Gift Box from Boxwild last year, so it was a lovely surprise for Max to receive their Children's Bird Gift Box from them. It contains a nesting box with paints for you to paint it yourself, along with two packs of birdseed, a bird feeder, and a little scoop. He was so excited to open it up and see that he had his very own bird ...

A Dinosaur Dig: An Activity for Preschoolers

Max is mad about dinosaurs, so I wanted to create lots of fun dinosaur themed activities for us to do together during February while the weather wasn't great. Once we'd made our dinosaur fossils, I created a dinosaur digging activity for him, where he became a palaeontologist, digging to discover dinosaur skeletons and fossils. This was such a big hit with him, and occupied him for a good length of time on a rainy afternoon, and was really easy to set up.   You Will Need: A tray (we used a storage box from Tesco) Play sand (I bought a 10kg bag from Early Learning Centre) Dinosaur figures (we used a combination of figures, skeletons, and fossils A paintbrush   How To Make: Just fill your tray with half ...

How to Make Salt Dough Dinosaur Fossils

Like most 3 year olds, Max is really into dinosaurs, so I thought it would be fun to have a dinosaur themed week, with lots of dinosaur craft and activity posts, as well as a room tour of Max's new dinosaur themed bedroom. I'm kicking off today with an activity we did last week, making our own dinosaur fossils. I loved this as a way to teach Max about dinosaurs, when they lived, and how we know that they existed. He ate up every word, and was so excited to create his own fossils! We used salt dough, which I have to admit I've never found a recipe that I'm quite happy with (this time we used this one), as I tend ...

Get crafty without the mess! Chalkola Chalk Pens - Review

I have to confess straight away: I'm not a crafty mum. It's a rare occasion that I get the paint or any craft bits out - I can't face the mess and I'm lacking the skills in the creative department. To add to that, my 2 year old is one of those rare children who isn't actually a fan of anything messy and doesn't like getting his hands dirty! So when Chalkola Chalk Markers first contacted me about reviewing their range of chalk pens my heart didn't initially leap with excitement. But on reading more about them I started to see that they could be the perfect craft activity for us. Instead of the mess of chalk dust getting everywhere, they ...
