It's been a bit of a rubbish couple of weeks over here lately - first Max was ill, then I was ill, then Max was ill again, while I was still ill - and I'm still not well now! I felt that this week would be scraping the barrel a bit to find 5 Happy Things, but after a bit of thought I did manage to come up with some!   01. I took Max for his second meningitis B jab at Boots last week and I have to admit that I was dreading it. We had to travel to a large Boots that we've never been to before, apart from meningitis jab 1, so I was convinced that he would recognise ...

I feel like I've been saying this all week, but hasn't this weather been just fabulous? The perfect autumn sunshine just gives that lovely warm glow to everything, but there's enough of a chill in the air to warrant digging out your favourite winter scarf again and cosy up. My 5 Happy Things is a fortnightly list of the small things that have brought me a little bit of joy - a way of being grateful for what I have, and to capture those little moments that can pass us by.   01. We've had a couple of days lately where Max has been a bit grumpy and not wanted to go out anywhere. He's been a bit unsettled with moving rooms at ...

The end of summer always puts me on a bit of a downer. I love autumn, but I have to admit that it takes a while every year for me to come round to accepting the fact the summer is truly over before I can start to embrace autumn. I'm really keen to do lots of lovely autumnal activities this year though - it really is such a lovely colourful season with so much to love about it, and we started off well with our trip last weekend.     01. We had a quiet morning on Sunday with no plans, and we ended up going to RHS Wisley. One of the things I love about Wisley is that it's so vast that ...

I've come to realise that I'm very much a creature of summer - I'm made for hot days, paddling pools, ice creams and trips to the beach. It has such an impact on my mood and makes it so much easier to find the my 5 happy things!   01. On Tuesday Max and I went for a picnic with my Mum and Dad. We'd intended to head to Waddesdon Manor, but as we pulled up the driveway in the car it became apparent that it wasn't open on Tuesdays! So we about turned and headed to another National Trust instead, Claydon House. A bit more on the smaller scale than Waddesdon, but we had a lovely picnic and then my Dad ...

Just when we thought the summer was over, here comes the sun again to give us another chance at all those things we didn't get round to doing! We have a lovely weekend planned - we're heading to Legoland today to make use of our newly purchased Merlin passes, and then planning a family BBQ for tomorrow. We've had a week of ups and downs - on Thursday I took Max to Boots for his Meningitis B jab, which we decided to pay for privately when it was announced that he would miss the age cutoff to get it done on the NHS. It went much more smoothly than I'd expected - he was so brave! But to compensate for that, ...

This is a week I'll be more than glad to see the back of - it's been filled with some things that I'd rather forget and been a difficult one in general. But in amongst all of that there have been some lovely moments that have got me through.   01. Max and I visited Mayfield Lavender Farm on Monday and it was just as lovely as I'd expected. Max wasn't in the mood at first, so we just sat down in the middle of all the lavender and had a long cuddle, breathing in the sweet smell. It was like being in a fantasy - purple as far as your eye could see, and Max kept shouting 'popple!' I got some ...

This has been a week of highs and lows - my emotions have been all over the place! It was my birthday on Thursday, which always brings lots of happiness, but I was so sad to wake up to more horrific news yesterday of the events in Nice. I don't want to dwell on it here on my blog, as I just don't have the right words to express how I feel about it, or to help anyone, but my heart goes out to all of those families affected by such an awful attack. I hesitated to post this today, as it seemed somewhat frivolous and insignificant in the wake of such sad news, but I think that these are the ...

So go on - who stole summer? It seems like it's been raining forever and it's putting a real dampner (*groan*) on my mood! But aside from the weather, and the political goings on, this week has been a really good one with loads of lovely things happening.   01. My linky, #SharingtheBlogLove, which I'm hosting with Laura from Dear Bear and Beany, went live for the first time yesterday. At the time of writing this we've had 30 people link up, which is just amazing! It's such a nerve wracking thing to put yourself out there and there is always that worry that no-one will bother linking. So a huge thank you to everyone who joined us - the linky is ...

We've just got home from an amazing week on holiday in Tuscany which felt like it just flew by! The weather was a bit hit and miss, but mostly good and I love that in Tuscany that doesn't really seem to ruin the holiday in the slightest. It was lovely to see how much of a Daddy's boy Max is - all holiday he just loved having his Dad around all day and was full of cuddles and kisses for Daddy. And it was lovely to see how great John is with Max too. I tend to forget that although I get to have lots of one-to-one time with Max during the week, John misses out on that sometimes, so watching ...

It's been a really busy couple of weeks lately, so crammed full of lovely stuff it's been difficult to choose 5 highlights! A Bank Holiday always does that, doesn't it?   01.After a busy weekend it was lovely to have a restful Bank Holiday Monday! We had a lazy morning, then heading to my favourite place, RHS Wisley, for a wander. I love visiting Wisley with all three of us as it means I can grab a few moments to properly take things in while John keeps an eye on Max! Max loved this huge plant - very pre-historic looking, don't you think? I can just imagine a dinosaur nibbling on the top of it!   02. Last Saturday my Mum, my sister and I ...
