The success of Mad Men has a lot to make us thankful for, not least the rise in Mid-century reproduction furniture in the UK market. I love the midcentury look, but sadly the real thing is a long way past my budget, so I’m thrilled that there are so many great pieces available – I’ve lined up my favourites to share here.
- Karla Armchair – Swoon Editions
I’ve been eyeing up midcentury Parker Knoll armchairs for ages – the sleek lines are so sexy. What most of them tend to be missing though is the funky upholstery that caught my eye with this one. Swoon Editions have collaborated with textile artist Michelle Mason and TfL, whose tile designs for the Bakerloo line inspired this pattern.
- Ikea Ekenaset chair
At £150 this is a total bargain! This Ikea version has the 1950’s feel of the Parker Knoll armchairs and is the budget version of the Karla chair above. I just wish they’d do it in a snazzier fabric – a hot pink velvet would be amazing!
- Acorn chest of drawers – West Elm
I’ve been eying this up for ages – at £999 it’s not exactly budget, but it looks stunning. I love the bronze knobs and the way it kind of looks like two faces (is that just me?)
- Marble Topped Coffee Table – West Elm
I love a coffee table. Sadly in our child friendly house its not an option, but if it was this is the one that would be gracing our living room. I love the angled legs, and the marble top is just beautiful.
- Randall Desk – Swoon Editions
Swoon Editions have a fabulous collection of mid-century inspired furniture – I got my desk from them not all that long ago and am thrilled with it. Sadly that version has long since sold out, but the Randall has a similar vibe in mango wood with a stylish midcentury shape. The slimline drawers are perfect for storing your laptop and keeping your desk neat and tidy when not in use.
- Acorn Midcentury Bedside Table – West Elm
I love the slim angled legs of this, the white drawer fronts and the cute brass knobs. Our current bedside tables are the trusted Ikea Hemnes – I’m lusting after these!
It’s worth mentioning that Swoon Editions currently have a special offer running – anyone spending over £250 will get £25 off using the code SWOON25.
