The first bath is such a big milestone for first time parents. I remember we put it off for ages as we were so nervous about putting a wriggling newborn into a bath full of water, and it’s fair to say that neither of our babies were big fans of their first bath! And although you get more confident as a parent as they get older, the challenges of keeping hold of your baby once they move into the big bath just seem to get harder. When I read about Joey’s Flannel Fingers I thought it was such a great idea to help with that transition. It’s such a simple idea, but sometimes the simplest ones are the most brilliant, aren’t they? Flannel Fingers are gloves made from soft organic cotton, which mean that you can keep a firm grip of your baby whilst washing them. Shampoo or baby wash will foam up on them, and they’re gentle and soft on your baby’s skin.
They were thought up by Emily, a mum of 2, who saw a gap in the market when her own children were tiny, and then took the plunge in designing and making the Flannel Fingers herself.
I’ve been using these with Ben for a little while now, and they definitely make it easy to keep a good hold of him in the bath and they make washing him a breeze! These would have been brilliant to have when he was smaller, when he outgrew his baby bath but still seemed tiny in the big bath. I think there are so many stages that the Flannel Fingers help with too, not just the tiny baby age. Even once they are able to sit up, the bath is a precarious place to do it - it’s slippery, and often they’ll lose their balance, or just not have the strength to keep on supporting themselves. These are so perfect for keeping a supportive grasp on your baby during that stage, and give you both that reassurance.
Although Ben’s not been massively enjoying his bathtime lately, he’s found the Flannel Fingers lovely and soft on his skin, and I find them comfortable to wear. I especially appreciate the tight cuff on them, to stop water getting inside, and the loops to hang them up to dry. So practical!
They come in either pink or blue, and you can chose your size (either medium or large). They retail at £9.99 and you can buy direct from the Flannel Fingers website, or from Amazon.
These would make such a perfect gift for a new mum - it’s the kind of thing I’d have found so reassuring as a new parent.
