Our Home Renovation: Week 1

Well, the first week of our renovation has flown by and the builders have moved on at a fantastic pace. First task was to demolish the rear patio and pergola, and instantly it was amazing to see how much brighter the kitchen was. I wish we'd taken it down years ago! We are living onsite for the first 6 weeks of the project, so we've slowly adjusted to living on a building site. The boys have absolutely loved it, and have spent hours at the back door, watching as the mini digger dug the foundations. Our first week wasn't without its stresses. The speed at which our project went from being planned for late summer to just after Christmas left us ...

This is a paid advertisement feature No matter how attached you are to your entrance door, there comes a time when it must eventually be replaced, either due to technical reasons or simply because it’s no longer looking its best. Once you have decided to replace your front door, it’s time to do some research as there are thousands of different front doors to choose from. In order to find the right one for your home, here are the things you should consider when buying a new front door. Material The most popular building materials for front doors are timber, plastic and steel. While all of these materials offer different benefits, they also have their drawbacks. Timber doors are favoured for their ...

Why I’ve Been So Quiet Lately

You may have noticed that I've been very quiet on the blogging front lately. I wrote a couple of posts in December, but apart from that, I pretty much took the whole of the month off to enjoy Christmas with my family. We had a wonderful Christmas together - we spent Christmas Day at home, and it was amazing to see both boys so excited about it all. I think Max has reached peak Christmas excitement age, and Ben seems so much more into it all than I remember Max being at his age. But then I suspect the excitement of his older brother rubs off on him quite a lot! But there is another reason why I've been so quiet. ...

New Year, New Kitchen: What to Keep and What to Replace

This is a paid post The start of a new year is the perfect time to reset, reassess, and declutter all areas of your life. When it comes to your kitchen, this means taking stock of everything in it and figuring out what needs replacing, and what you can keep for another year. Dinnerware Your dinnerware will have likely taken a considerable battering over the festive period and now is the time to check if it’s still in a presentable state or if you should invest in a new dinner set. To get 2019 off to a good start by making sure that you invest in a quality dinnerware brand like Corelle. Both chip and break resistant, a high-quality dinner set from Corelle ...

Getting Started with Our Home Renovation plans

We've been in our home for 5 years now and I still love it. It's in the perfect location for us - close to the London Waterloo train line for John's commute to London - and it's the Victorian house that I love the look of so much. I love the bay window at the front, I love the red bricks, and we've worked really hard to put traditional features back into the house, like sash windows, and the glazed front door. But we've known since we first moved in that the layout didn't really work for us, and as the years have gone on and our two boys have come along, it's become more and more of a problem. On ...

When This Lazy Mum Got Cleaning!

Hands up, I've never been a cleaner. I struggle to keep things tidy, and it's fair to say that having children has been the nail in the coffin of cleanliness in our house. When the whole Mrs Hinch and her #HinchArmy thing started doing the rounds, I just didn't see the appeal, and saw myself far more aligned with Mrs Hunch - surely everyone has a clean clothes basket that they take their clothes from, rather than putting them straight away? We would tend to have a whole weekend once a month where we would tackle the tidying and do more of a deep clean, but it's pretty depressing when you get to Sunday evening and realise that you've not left the ...

Make Space For Play {With The Great Little Trading Company} | AD

When Max was little, I remember saying that we wouldn't let toys overtake our living room. Sadly we don't have a spare room in our house to turn into a playroom, and I was determined that our living room would stay an adult space, with toys tidied away in the evening. But, as I'm sure happens to us all, slowly the toys started to invade our house. First there was the jumperoo, then the toy cars, then the collection of Toy Story toys. And then Ben, our second child, came along and somewhere along the line we lost all sight of our adult space, just sweeping all the toys to one side once bedtime came along. The Great Little Trading Company ...

Personalised Prints from Created By Magic

I love choosing photos and prints to fill the walls in our home. To me, it's what makes a house a home. We have a mixture of photos and artwork, and when I saw this personalised welly boot print from Created By Magic, I knew we had to find a space for it. I don't think there could be a more perfect addition to the Hot Pink Wellingtons home! My blog was named after my beautiful pink Joules wellingtons as I felt it summed up my love of the outdoors, and that love is something that I've definitely passed onto my children too. We love getting outside and enjoying nature. What could be more perfect to sum up our family than ...

Max’s Dinosaur Themed Little Boy’s Room

When we started decorating Ben's nursery, I was really keen to make sure that we updated Max's bedroom at the same time. We hadn't really updated it since it was decorated as his nursery, and, as a nearly 4 year old, I felt that it needed to reflect the fact that he's a little boy now, no longer a baby! Max's big love at the moment is dinosaurs, so it was an easy choice to make his new bedroom a dinosaur themed room. While I have aspirations to be a crafty mum, I definitely lack the skills in that area. So a huge thank you to one of my favourite bloggers, Rachel at The Ordinary Lovely, who provided me with lots ...

Ben’s Rainbow Nursery Room Tour

When it came to creating a nursery for Ben, the theme and colour scheme was an easy choice for me. With Max's nursery decor I'd been torn between a muted grey and yellow theme, and a rainbow theme. Quite opposite ideas really, and although I ended up going down the grey and yellow route, I always craved a little boy's room with more colour. Ben's room is what used to be my office, and if you ever saw my Office Room Tour, you may remember the fabulous Sian Elin wallpaper I had in it. It's such a statement wallpaper and I really couldn't bear to take it down, so it made the choice for a rainbow themed room nice and ...
