Finding Me Time {With Birchbox}

When you become a mum, the opportunities for ‘me time’ are so limited and it’s so easy to let yourself fall to the bottom of the priority list. I remember so clearly a year after I’d had Max, when I realised that I’d not been using makeup or beauty products for so long that I’d not tried a new product in ages. For someone who used to be a huge makeup addict, that really struck me, and I decided that it was time to find a bit of time for me. My friend suggested Birchbox to me, and I ordered my first box, and from then on I was hooked!

Every month when my Birchbox arrives I’m so excited to see what’s in it this month, so when Birchbox contacted me to ask if I would review their latest box I jumped at the chance. And the March box is a really good one!

The star of the show is the Nuxe Reve de Miel body scrub. I love every single Nuxe product I’ve tried, and this one is no exception. It’s a sugar scrub which gently exfoliates, leaving your skin glowing, and like all Nuxe products, it smells divine!

You also have the Benefit BADgal BANG! Volumising Mascara. I never used to use mascara, but as I’ve got older it’s become one of my must have makeup items. I quite like Benefit mascaras - they do volume really well, and this one is no exception, but sadly I’ve not found one yet that holds a curl for me.

I’m not a huge buyer of hair products, but I do enjoy getting them in a Birchbox as it forces me to try them out. The March box contains the Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray, which aims to give you lovely natural beachy waves. You just spray on damp or dry hair and work through your hair to create a pretty but tousled look. This is the kind of hair product I love - low maintenance!

The last two products are what make this box all about pampering - the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Mask Treatment and the Blaq Hydrogel Eye Mask. It really encourages you to find the time on a Sunday evening to head into the bathroom once the kids are in bed and take a bit of time just for you - bath run, candles lit, and face masks on. The Glamglow mask is an activated charcoal mask that you just leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing off to reveal beautifully clear pores. And the Blaq eye mask is what every tired mum needs - these are another activated charcoal product and you just pop them a centimetre below each eye, leave for 15 minutes, and then peel off to see your refreshed eyes!

I think Birchbox is such a wonderful idea for a subscription box. With 5 sample sized products to try out every month it’s just enough to get through them all every month, and you feel like you’re getting to try new products regularly, which is what I missed out on before. It’s introduced me to some great new brands. I can’t recommend it enough for anyone who finds it difficult to take the time to give themselves a bit of pampering.

At £10 a month (plus £2.95 p&p) it’s great value too, and once you’ve receive 6 boxes in a row you get a 15% VIP discount in the Birchbox shop, where you can buy a whole range of high end beauty products.

Disclosure: I was kindly sent this month’s Birchbox in exchange for this review.
